ARTIST STATEMENT
Photography was not always a part of my life. I did not grow up with a clear artistic direction or an understanding of what it meant to create. My relationship with photography emerged through my faith in God and through many nights spent in prayer. What began as a discovery became a way of seeing—one that continues to shape both the person I am and the work I make.
My faith is the foundation of my practice. I believe the ability to see beyond what something is and consider what it has the potential to become is a gift from God. Through photography, I am drawn to moments, subjects, and spaces that might otherwise be overlooked. The ordinary, incomplete, obscure, or easily passed by can become something worth questioning when given attention.
I approach image-making with curiosity rather than rigid expectations. I do not want my work confined by categories or by the need for every photograph to provide an immediate answer. Ambiguity leaves room for the viewer to bring something of themselves to the image. Sometimes what’s withheld can be just as important as what’s shown.
For me, artistic growth and personal growth are inseparable. As I continue to grow as a person, the work must grow with me. Photography isn’t simply a way for me to document what I see; it is a way to explore how I see—and to always remain open to what might otherwise go unnoticed.
